The Minnesota Twins and first-round draft pick Kohl Stewart, are close to signing a deal. Last week, Stewart told the Twins he would pursue baseball rather than play football at Texas A&M.

Stewart needs to undergo a physical, which is one of the final steps in order for his deal to be official.

Stewart was the fourth overall pick in the MLB Draft by the Twins. He is a 6'3", 190 pound right-hander that can throw 91-94 mph. His fastball can touch 96 mph.

In his senior year at St. Plus X, he went 5-1 with a 0.18 ERA in 40 innings while striking out 59 batters and walking 16.

While the Twins try to sign Stewart, the Twins begin a series with the White Sox at Target Field tonight at 7:10 p.m. CDT.
Mike Pelfrey (3-6, 6.12 ERA) takes the mound for Minnesota.

Outfielder Josh Willingham received a cortisone shot in his left knee and hopes to play tonight. Willingham injured his knee on Saturday and did not play on Sunday.

Twins outfielder Wilkin Ramirez will begin a rehab assignment today in Fort Meyers after he was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list on May 26.
