With the move to make Joe Mauer a permanent first baseman, signing a free agent catcher may not be a bad idea for the Minnesota Twins.

The Twins have expressed interest in Jarrod Saltalamacchia, reports ESPN 1500 in Minneapolis.

The Orlando general manager's meeting began Monday and the Twins may be open to bringing in an insurance policy. Currently, the Twins catcher is Josmil Pinto, but the 24-year old Venezuelan native has one-year of experience.

Pinto  played in 21 games played in 2013, had 76 at-bats, hit four home runs, and batted .342/.398/.566. At the catcher position, he made 18 starts, had 112 putouts, four assists, and two errors.
