According to the Star Tribune, a husband, wife and 3 children were found dead in their home Thursday afternoon, September 10, 2015 in an apparent murder-suicide. The family lived in a large, multi-million dollar house in an upscale neighborhood in Minnetonka, Minnesota. The bodies were found by officers performing a welfare check after a co-worker reported the father hadn't shown up for work in a couple of days. The kids did not attend school Tuesday or Wednesday, September 8 and 9, 2015.

Sources told the paper:

Brian Scott Short, the 45-year-old homeowner, grabbed a shotgun and headed to the bedrooms of his 17-year-old son, Cole, and his 15- and 14-year-old daughters, Madison and Brooklyn. He walked into the first bedroom, aimed the gun at a sleeping child and pulled the trigger. He then did the same to his other two children. Startled by the noise, Short’s 48-year-old wife, Karen, grabbed a cellphone to call 911. But Brian tracked her into another bedroom and shot her dead. Short then went into the home’s attached garage and turned the shotgun on himself.

Brian Short was a nurse who founded the website AllNurses.com, which provides information and resources for and about the nursing profession.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office was processing the crime scene and the Hennepin County medical examiner's office will conduct the autopsies.
