It never ceases to amaze me how creative people are and the amount of thought and effort they put into Halloween costumes! When we were kids, our mom let us pick from those costumes that came in the 8-inch square cardboard box with the cellophane window. The mask, with the itty-bitty rubber band which you would try not to snap all night, was staring out at the top of the box. Remember those?

My older sister Carmela was Snow White one year and an Oriental woman with a pagoda hat another (yeah, don't ask, I don't know what the deal with that one was either!). I honestly don't remember the costumes my younger sister Carolyn chose and wore, because truthfully, she was little, she was kind of pokey, (and speed is very important on Halloween - a lot of neighborhoods to cover, you know!) and was always crabbing about how she couldn't breath through the mouth slit in whatever she was wearing!

In any case, we and our parents never had the presence of mind to come up with the costume the parents of one little tyke in Washington, D.C. did. Friday afternoon at the White House hundreds of local children got to stop by and trick-or-treat, with the President and First Lady handing out the treats.

All of a sudden the line stops as President Obama loses it over a delightful mini-pope being pushed through the line in his tiny Popemobile by his security guy (Daddy). The toddler seems to be thoroughly enjoying the whole experience!
