One year ago today we all watched a story or heroism and tragedy unfold in Falls Park in downtown Sioux Falls. Reports of a 6-year old boy who had fallen in the Big Sioux River on a beautiful spring-like day began to come out. That was followed by eyewitness reports of the boy's sister and a complete stranger diving into the icy waters in an attempt to save the boy's life.

The little boy emerged unhurt from the foamy water, but his sister, 16-year old Madison Wallace, and the kind stranger, 28-year old Lyle Eagletail, didn't.

The search for Eagletail continued into the next day when rescuers found him and not a day goes by that his family doesn't remember his smile and generosity.

The Wallace family has since moved away, but a memorial will be held in Falls Park this evening (Friday March 14) at 5:30pm to remember the heroes. The public is invited to attend.

Family members of Eagletail hope that one day a plaque could be installed in the park to remember the two heroes who lost their lives trying to save a little boy.
