The dedication of the new, and very colorful, Meldrum Park Mural is set for Wednesday July 31st at 6 p.m. You are invited to attend.

Meldrum Park is located on the north side of Sixth street, midway between Cliff and Cleveland Ave.

The project was initiated by Whittier Middle School students in 2011. Teacher Lela Himmerich facilitated the effort. Meetings were held with neighborhood residents and students to research, develop, and paint the mural. Three professional mural painters, Dave Loewentstien, Ashley Laird, and Nate Buchholz, were hired to assist and direct the actual painting.

The project is being coordinated by the Sioux Falls Arts Council and is being supported by an "Our Town" grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The completed design was approved by the Sioux Falls City Council. The mural wall is the west side of a Sioux Falls Water Storage Facility in Meldrum Park.
