Mel Antonen on MLB Replay: ‘Hasn’t Been Too Intrusive’
As we pull into the All-Star break for Major League Baseball this weekend, it’s a good time to reflect back on the game’s brand new replay system, which is now a half season old.
One insider, Lake Norden, South Dakota native, and longtime baseball writer Mel Antonen, told Brookings Radio that he was a skeptic of instant replay at first, but admits it’s working well – so far – especially when it comes to its effect on the pace of games:
Antonen says the new system still has its’ flaws, especially when managers stall on the field while assistant coaches in the dugout decide if a call should be challenged.
He’d like to see baseball address that issue:
Antonen, who covered baseball for USA TODAY for a number of years, now appears on Baltimore, and Washington, pre-game shows – and does a show on satellite radio.
