We just got the news that the long time and very famous safety and rescue team Med Star headed by Jay Masur, has been fired by Badlands Motor Speedway (formerly Huset's Speedway).

This is definitely a surprise and big news to the racing community. Masur and his team have provided the safety and rescue service to the track for over 40 years.

He and his crew are known all across the nation as one of the premier fire and safety teams for auto racing events. When Masur's crew saved Tony Stewart's leg in a 2014 racing accident, it made national headlines. See the interview I did with Masur on that story.

So the big question is: what happened with Med Star and Badlands?

Here's what Masur had to say on his Facebook page:

I had the opportunity of seeing Masur and his team in action for many years. I was the track announcer for 21 seasons at the same time Masur was providing the safety. I watched, and announced to the crowd, many crashes during racing events where the safety crew came to the rescue.
