Grilling season is in full swing, so it's a good time to celebrate South Dakota's beef industry and ranchers. Recently, Governor Dennis Daugaard declared May Beef Month in South Dakota.

“This industry plays a vital role for the state’s economy,” said Gov. Daugaard. “With an economic impact of over $4.8 billion, our beef industry is thriving.”

In South Dakota there are over four cattle per person and the state ranks fourth in calf crop and fifth in beef cows nationally.

South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture Lucas Lentsch said, “This is a great way of acknowledging all the hard work and dedication of our state’s beef producers as they work to provide the world with a healthy and nutritious protein source.”
