March 18th has been proclaimed National Awkward Moment Day.  And as my therapist always says, "Sharing is good for the soul."  So, I'd like to share with you now a couple of my most embarrassing moments.  Ironically, both happened while I was live on the air.

My first awkward moment dates back to 1982, I had just started working part-time at a radio station in Volga, South Dakota.  It happened to be a Friday night, heading into a long Labor Day weekend.  I had just sat down in the chair when a co-worker handed me a piece of paper - a listener request (the station was big on listener requests at the time).

So, without first pre-reading it like you're suppose to do, I break open the mic and introduce the next song by saying, "This next one is for Charlotte who is a hundred and eleven.  Hey Charlotte, congratulations on a ripe old age."  And then it hit me, I had just messed up big time!  I then had to go back on the air after the song ended and say, "I'm sorry, I got that last request wrong.  That one was for Charlotte - who is ill."  D'oh!!!

And then there was the time when my partner and I were drinking alcohol on the air - with the approval of management I might add.  The South Dakota Highway patrol was in-studio with us the whole time talking about the effects of drinking and driving.

We signed on that Friday morning at 6:00 AM and had our first drink at 6:05 AM.  Let's just say, by 9:30 AM we were feeling no pain - me in particular.  That was also the time we did a regular Friday feature called "The Weekend Report" where we would highlight some of the weekend activities going on the area.

When it came time for me to read from the list, I was suppose to talk about the play "Nunsense" at the Olde Town Theater in Worthing.  The show had already been running probably five or six weeks, so when it came time for me to talk about it, I looked at the list, announced that "Nunsense" was still playing at the Worthing Dinner Theater - and then said, live on the air, "J---s C----T, how long is that G-d D--n show gonna go on?"  The next thing I remember I'm being helped into my house by a couple of friendly Highway Patrol Troopers.

Any awkward moments you'd like to share?
