A pursuit through eastern Sioux Falls early Wednesday reached speeds of 75 miles per hour.

It began around 2am on East 41st Street near Southeastern Avenue when a vehicle passed a police car at a high rate of speed and almost went out of control.

Spokesman Sam Clemens says an officer followed the vehicle on Southeastern, 26th Street and Bahnson Avenue before losing sight of it. He says at times, the driver reached 75 miles per hour on Southeastern where the speed limit is 35 mph.

The officer was able to get a plate number, and about 45 minutes later, 22-year-old Marcus Steven Shields was located and arrested.

He is charged with a half-dozen offenses including aggravated eluding, DWI-first offense, driving with a suspended license and no insurance.
