Each year Black Friday shopping hours seem to get earlier and earlier, with many stores now beginning sales on Thanksgiving Day. But this year, America’s biggest shopping mall has made the bold move to remain closed on the holiday.

The Mall of America announced Wednesday (October 5th) that remaining closed on Thanksgiving Day will hopefully cause more people to spend time with their families.

For the past two years, the mall had been opening at 6:00 PM Thanksgiving evening. The two years prior to that, the center opened at 8:00 PM.

I personally find this refreshing. I think it was a great idea on the mall’s part. With people camping out days, sometimes a week before the biggest shopping day of the year, I feel someone needs to make a stand and alter the insanity. Hats off to you, Mall of America!
