Several people are charged in a large methamphetamine bust in Sioux Falls that involved search warrants at four locations.

Officer Sam Clemens says police first learned of the operation last November and have been gathering evidence since then.

He says searches were carried out Tuesday at a residence in the 1200 block of South Summit Avenue, a former business on South Carolyn Avenue and two hotels--a Super 8 on East 10th Street and a Days Inn on South Gateway Boulevard, where most of the drugs were seized.

Clemens says the agents of the Sioux Falls Area Drug Task Force seized a total of 1.7 pounds of meth, two handguns, drug paraphernalia and around $600 in cash.

Charged are 30-year-old Malek Samuel Malek, 30-year-old Ajak Manguak-Awan, 42-year-old Stewart Van Maasdan, 41-year-old Alphonso White, 54-year-old Frederick White and 45-year-old Kevin Edmond.

Clemens says they all face a variety of drug possession and distribution charges, but he says Malek  is believed to have been the one in charge.

The source of the meth isn't known, but Clemens says it likely was not produced locally.
