RALSTON, NE -- It might be early in the season, but Omaha goaltender Cole Bruns is certainly making a name for himself.

The Lancer netminder turned aside all 28 Stampede shots to earn his USHL record fourth straight shutout to start the season as the Omaha Lancers blanked Sioux Falls 2-0 on Friday night at Ralston Arena. He has yet to allow a goal in 89 shots and 12 periods as the Lancers improved to 4-0-0 while the Stampede suffered their first road loss of the season, falling to 4-2-0 overall.

David Jacobson was solid in between the pipes, stopping 25 of 27 shots for the Stampede who are still winless at Ralston Arena (0-5-0).

It was a defensive battle through the first two periods with both goaltenders looking sharp. Bruns ran his shutout streak to 11 periods with 16 saves while Jacobson picked up right where he left off last Saturday, stopping all 18 shots faced.

The Lancers finally broke through at 4:41 on a goal from Luca Frigo. Matt Nelson took the puck behind the net and fed it to Frigo who skate in to the left of Jacobson and tucked the puck through the pads of Jacobson and into the back of the net to give the Lancers a 1-0 edge. It stayed that way until the 10:55 mark of the third when Brian Williams was given a double minor for high sticking, giving the Stampede a four minute power play. The Herd had several good chances in front of the net, but the puck would not bounce in their favor and Bruns made some key saves to keep the Stampede off the board.

The Herd turned the puck over behind their own net at 13:31 when Jake Randolph cut in front of the net and slid the puck to the left side where Tyler Vessel  was all alone and one-timed the pass into the back of the net to give the Lancers a 2-0 edge. The Herd pulled Jacobson in the final two minutes to try and make something happen, but Bruns continued to play strong and shut down the Stampede offense for the second straight game as the Lancers held on for a 2-0 win.

The Stampede outshot the Lancers 12-9 in the period and 28-27 on the night, but finished 0-for-6 on the power play while going 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Sioux Falls will look to get back into the win column Saturday night when they travel to Lincoln to face the Stars at 7:05 PM.
