Lady Gaga Update: Singer Was Bankrupt in 2009, Puke Partner Fires Back at Demi Lovato, ‘Brooklyn Nights’ Leaks
Despite the fact that 2009 was her breakthrough year, with ‘Poker Face’ and ‘Bad Romance’ putting her on the map and making her a huge star, Lady Gaga was effectively bankrupt at the time. How does that work?
Well, Gaga revealed in this clip from the EPIX documentary ‘Who the F—k Is Arthur Fogel,’ which is about the head of Live Nation global touring and is set to air on March 19, that she sunk every dime she had into her Monster Ball Tour.
It was a gamble and a risk, but it paid off.
Gaga said, “I had three million dollars in the bank to my name and I threw it all in to make my stage.”
Her dad Joe Germanotta was very skeptical about such action, as dads tend to be! But Papa G is also very involved in his daughter’s financial dealings, so he had to ask questions and then let his little girl trust her gut and her instinct.
“I remember I went home and I was with my dad and he said, ‘I don’t understand,'” Gaga recalled. “‘Bad Romance’ is out. You are all over the radio. Everyone is talking about you and you don’t have a pot to piss in.’ I said, ‘Just let me do this. Let me just put it on the stage because I think if I can do this I can get Arthur Fogel’s attention.’ And I did.”
Gaga put herself on Fogel’s radar and he was pretty much responsible for changing her life and turning her into an even bigger star. “I remember he called me and he said, ‘We want to do this.’ And he got Live Nation to write me a $40 million check. And it changed my life and the life of my whole family,” Gaga confessed.
In other Gaga news, Millie Brown, the puke performance artist who hurled all over Ma Monster during her SXSW performance, has fired back at Demi Lovato, who took to Twitter to suggest that Gaga and Brown were glamorizing eating disorders with their gross antics.
Brown said, “There’s a clear difference between using my body to create something beautiful, to express myself and feel powerful, rather than using it to punish myself and conform to society’s standards.”
Ah, so that’s what it was. Even so, it was pretty foul.
Lastly, ‘Brooklyn Nights,’ an unreleased Gaga song, has landed online, as well. The song was due to appear on’ARTPOP,’ but Gaga pulled it and held it for the album’s app. It’s a heavily studio treated, synthy dance pop song with ballad tendencies. It’s supremely EDM and it was influenced by a visit to a porn shop, according to this Gaga resource.
