Lady Gaga on Weight: Adele Is Bigger, Has More Confidence
Lady Gaga paid her fellow singer Adele a backhanded compliment recently when addressing the media response to her weight gain, which launched her Body Revolution. Gaga called the 'Someone Like You' singer "wonderful" and said that her "confidence is something I have to match," but also made a statement about Adele's size which could cause some controversy.
When chatting with Stylist about her beauty regimens and routines, the Body Revolution (where little monsters followed her lead and posted photos of their natural bodies) came up. Gaga was reading her press at the time --or at least she was being told about it by her family -- where she was criticized for the excess pounds she packed onto her normally lithe frame.
"I was acutely aware of some photos on the Internet – my mom called me and was like, 'Did you gain weight?' – everybody was telling me about it, and I didn't really care," she declared. "But when I heard it was on the news, where they talk about wars, the economy crashing and the election, I just thought, 'This is f---ing ridiculous.' I mean, what kind of example is that to a young girl sitting at home? I thought, 'Well I don’t really care if they think I’m fat, because, quite honestly, I did gain about 30 pounds."
And here's where the Mother Monster could face some backlash.
"Adele is bigger than me, how come nobody says anything about it? She’s so wonderful and I think her confidence is something I have to match. She has set the bar very high for a lot of woman. I need to be a confident woman and just say politically active things when I can that are helpful to young people."
Well, Gaga, we have to point out that Adele herself says stuff about it. The new mother is adamant about being a singer and that she is not a pop star or a sex symbol. She is not someone who shows off her body in skimpy outfits. She will put on a dress and get up there and sing, not show her bootay, like Gaga and other pop stars do, so why would anyone bother to comment on Adele's curves?
Less controversially, Gaga talked about her beauty mantra and how fans and little monsters can approach beauty rituals.
"Sit in front of the mirror with all of the paints and colors and wigs that you have at your disposal, and just have a real talk with yourself. 'What do I not like about me?' And then, peer into the mirror – and just f---ing draw right over it because that's what makeup is here for. We’re not all perfect – it’s meant to be fun so we can bond as women, and say, 'You know, what? We don’t all feel perfect, but did you try that lipstick? It’s divine.'
