Denied! Lady Gaga is too big for SXSW, too big for Doritos and too big for the city of Austin.

A permit request was submitted so that Ma Monster could play the Doritos stage at the 2014 edition of the annual music industry event, and it was denied.

The Doritos stage mimics a giant vending machine and is situated in the parking lot of Carmelo's, an Italian eatery in downtown Austin. It is due to return to the same spot this year.

Last year, the stage was used for a major hip-hop show with LL Cool J, Ice Cube and Public Enemy.

So why was Gaga denied, denied, denied? Public safety concerns, that's why.

The city concluded that the venue could not sustain Gaga's sizable production and expected crowds. The powers-that-be look at the resources, the size and the capacity of a location where a permit is sought. Since the Doritios stage is in a parking lot, without permanent infrastructure, the city could not grant Gaga permission to play there.

It'd probably be a traffic nightmare, too.

"We informed the applicant that we would support relocation to an established venue with the necessary permanent infrastructure," Don Pitts, who is in charge of these decisions, said. Translation? Find another place to play, Gaga!

We were sort of surprised that Gaga was planning to play SXSW in the first place. While big name acts do make appearances at the event, like Justin Timberlake did in 2013, Gaga and her 'ARTPOP' seem to be the antithesis of SXSW.
