Be Still Our Fangirl Hearts: Kristen Bell Is Helping Kickstart a ‘Veronica Mars’ Movie [VIDEO]

Kristen Bell and director Rob Thomas (no, not that Rob Thomas) have been trying to get a ‘Veronica Mars‘ movie off the ground since the TV series was cancelled after its third season in 2007.

For those of you who have never seen ‘VM,’ it starred a young Bell as a precocious girl detective trying to solve the murder of her friend Lily Kane, played by Amanda Seyfried, and the show was a total guilty pleasure for a lot of people.

Despite massive fan support — including a campaign to send Mars candy bars to the CW to save the show — it ended with some massive cliffhangers, with many crying for a film that would tie up all the loose ends. (Like, did Veronica end up with Logan or not?)

Director Rob Thomas lobbied the studios, but was never able to get the idea off the ground — until he turned to funding site Kickstarter for help.

Kristen Bell teased fans yesterday via Twitter about the announcement:

Kickstarter prizes for donors currently include PDF versions of the script, a copy of the film, signed movie posters (possibly signed by the more famous Rob Thomas), a voice recording performed by Kristen Bell to give you the best voicemail ever, and even a walk-on role in the film.

Wrote Thomas on the Kickstarter page of his hopes for the endeavor:

“My goal is to include as many of your favorite characters as possible. It is, after all, time for Veronica’s 10-year high school reunion. Keep in mind that the more money we raise, the cooler movie we can make. A two million dollar fundraising total probably means cross words are exchanged at the class reunion. Three million? We can afford a full-on brawl. Ten million? Who knows … For some reason the Neptune High class reunion takes place on a nuclear submarine! A Hobbit shows up! There’s a Bollywood end-credit dance number! I’ve always wanted to direct Bill Murray.”

As of this writing, the Kickstarter has been up for less than 24 hours and has already acquired $1.4 million of its $2 million goal. If the movie is funded (and it certainly looks promising right now), Thomas hopes to have it filmed this summer and available for our viewing pleasure in early 2014.

Check out flawless video above to see Kristen and her co-stars, including a smoldering Jason Dohring, a couch surfing Ryan Hansen and Enrico Colantoni (who thinks he’s still Keith Mars), convince you to come up with the cash.
