Kesha is like a breath of fresh air in Hollywood. Earlier this year she was admitted to rehab, and not only is she not bothering to deny it, but in a gesture of complete sincerity, she’s also opening up to the public on what led her to that point and why she decided to seek help.

The 27-year-old singer spent two months in a Chicago rehab facility to treat her eating disorder. It came as a shock to her fans, who are huge encouragers and supporters of Kesha’s kickass, love yourself attitude. Luckily, the ‘Die Young’ star also came to that realization.

“My whole message is to love who you are and accept all your beautiful imperfections. When I felt I was slipping into unloving territory with myself, I knew I had to listen to my own advice and correct it,” Kesha revealed to Teen Vogue. “I have a public persona where I need to be fun all the time, and I refuse to be a hypocrite. I felt I needed to get help, not only for myself but also for my fans. My worst fear in life is to be fake.”

She also felt the need to clear the air on exactly why she went to rehab, dismissing all rumors that she was dealing with a drug or alcohol addiction. “My eating disorder is something I’ve been struggling with for a while,” she admitted. “People will make up stories, but I went to rehab for an eating disorder — nothing more and nothing less.”

So what led her down such a dark path that she needed to seek professional help? Not only was making her last studio album ‘Warrior’ a “miserable process,” but the pop star talked about how difficult it is to constantly live under such scrutiny and speculation. “I’m in an industry where people photograph your body and zoom in and blow it up and put it on the cover of magazines, and other people make terrible comments,” she shared. “It really messed with my head, and I realized I couldn’t do it by myself.”

Kesha is feeling happy and healthy now, and her time in rehab gave her another gift, as well — she wrote 14 new songs during her stay, all with a toy Casio keyboard! “The whole process has made me so much stronger and ready to take my life by the horns and make a record that I’m going to be proud of and not care what anybody else thinks!” she announced.

There’s the Kesha we know and love!
