South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has declared June "Great Outdoors Month" so grab a fishing pole and tent and get ready for adventure in your favorite state park.

From hiking, fishing, camping, and stunning landscapes, South Dakota offers many opportunities for outdoor fun.

State parks throughout June will offer bird walks, outdoor cooking demonstrations, fishing derbies and other activities.

The first week in June is National Fishing and Boating Week. Special events include National Trails Day on June 7, National Get Outdoors Day on June 14 and the Great American Backyard Campout on June 28.

Pioneer Day will take place at Lake Herman State Park near Madison on June 14 with family activities and historical demonstrations.

You only get 18 summers with the kids. Make the most of them by making plans every weekend to enjoy the great outdoors South Dakota has to offer.
