Jones Named Summit League Player of the Week
VERMILLION, SD — South Dakota junior first baseman Matley Jones was named Summit League Player of the Week for the period ended April 27. It is the first such honor for Jones, a junior from Lincoln, Neb.
Jones batted .647 (11-for-17) during the week with six doubles, five runs scored and three RBIs. Her week included a pair of perfect performances. She went 4-for-4 with two doubles in a game against Iowa State in Ames on Tuesday. She was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the opening game of the Coyotes’ three-game sweep of in-state rival South Dakota State.
Jones had four multi-hit games during the week. Her slugging percentage was 1.00 and her on-base percentage was .667. Defensively, she had 17 putouts and an assist without committing an error.
