Latin Superstar Jenni Rivera Dies in Plane Crash

Mexican American singer Jenni Rivera is believed dead after a plane crash in Mexico.

Rivera, star of Mun2 reality show 'I Love Jenni' and multiplatinum Latin singer, was one of seven passengers on a LearJet that was found in mountains near Nuevo Leon, slightly south of Monterrey, Mexico. Following one of Rivera's concerts, the plane left Monterrey around 3:30AM to go to Toluca. After traveling about 61 miles in 10 minutes, the plane lost contact.

Mexican authorities confirmed that the plane wreckage was found Sunday afternoon. There were no survivors.

Rivera led a tumultuous life, but always seemed to triumph in the face of adversity. She became pregnant at 15 but continued her education, earning a real estate license after studying business administration in college. Her focus soon turned to music, signing to Capitol and releasing her debut album in 1995.

Rivera's love life was a source of drama -- she survived an abusive first husband, a cheating second and recently announced the end of her third marriage to former Major League Baseball player Esteban Loaiza. She told the AP (via Variety), " I am a woman like any other and ugly things happen to me like any other women. The number of times I have fallen down is the number of times I have gotten up."

Rivera was on the cusp of crossover superstardom. The Long Beach, Calif. native recently inked a deal with ABC to star in a sitcom pilot about being a single mom.

She is survived by her five children. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends and fans at this time.
