Jacks, Coyotes Split In The Pool
VERMILLION, S.D.–South Dakota women’s swimming and diving needed every single point it could muster to down South Dakota State 150-148 in the DakotaDome on Saturday. The men lost to SDSU 180.5-114.5.
The final score was quite the turnaround from the women’s meeting with the Jackrabbits, a 178-118 Coyote loss back in November.
The Coyote women held an 11-point lead over the Jacks heading into the meet’s final race, the 200-meter free relay. A team of Kaitlyn Jefferson, Delaney Schenk, Chelsea Coneset and Mariah Anderson finished the event in second-place to seal the victory.
Hannah Veselik also turned in a key performance for the USD women, finishing strong in the 100 butterfly and beating a trio of SDSU swimmers to the wall in a time of 1:08.52. Jefferson submitted an equally gutsy performance in the 50 freestyle, out-touching SDSU’s Devonne Dalin at the wall to win the sprint by .13 seconds.
Shannon Moceri continued her record-setting season by setting a new school mark in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:13.26).
The performances of Clark Kocourek and Kyle Ochsner highlighted the men’s win for the Jackrabbits. Kocourek set a new pool-record in the 3-meter diving (6 dives), scoring 312.23, while Ochsner set a new pool-best in the 800 freestyle (8:40.06).
The Coyotes will return to the pool next Friday and Saturday for the Tri-Duals in Macomb, Ill. The meet will start 6 p.m. Friday and continue at 11 a.m. Saturday.
