It's not every day that you meet a family of five young adults who each own successful businesses. Especially in the same small community. Therefore, I've developed the ‘It’s Possible in Platte′ series. Through the course of five articles, you'll learn about a group of millennial, entrepreneurial cousins in the Samuelson family and their paths to success.

Like many little girls, Chelsie (Samuelson) Reddick of Platte, SD loved to play dress-up as a kid. She and her younger sister, Kobi, would put on costumes, do each others makeup and experiment with hair styles.

But at a very young age, Chelsie made a mistake that would actually help shape her future.

At age four, while playing with her sister, Chelsie had the idea to give Kobi an impromptu haircut. She proceeded to alter her 1 year-old sister's bright blonde locks by actually shaving off a portion of hair from her head.

Now while most girls could potentially be 'scarred' from an incident like this and want to avoid taking a scissors to hair forever, it actually developed into an element of curiosity for Chelsie.

From then on, Chelsie's interest in styling began to develop. As a kid, she was always intrigued by professional stylists and what they did. She would admire them while getting her own hair done, watching each move closely in hopes of trying out some techniques herself.

By the time she got to high school, Chelsie was not only styling but coloring her hair at home. She had such a knack for it that her talent led to friends asking if she could do their hair, as well. Her reputation of good cuts even followed her to the senior class trip, when the entire boy's AG class at Platte High School requested she dye their hair.

After attending Lake Area Tech for Cosmetology, Chelsie moved to Sioux Falls. However, after a few years, she discovered she wanted to get away for a bit and pursue her dreams elsewhere.

She moved to Reno, NV in 2007 and began her own salon in the nearby town of Gardnerville. While living there she met the man of her dreams, Ken Reddick, and the two were married in 2010.

Although moving away from home for some time was a great experience, Chelsie always missed her family, who were all still in Platte. In 2013 she made the big decision to move back home to be around her parents and three siblings once again.

The young entrepreneur chose to open her own salon in the quaint Platte community in 2014. A Little Off the Top Salon & Beauty Supply has been a dream come true for her, and a place where she treasures the relationships she's built with her clients.

"I have found that one of my passions in life is helping people feel better about themselves! The world can be such a cruel place, and my goal is this: when you come in my door and get a little 'you' time, I want you to leave feeling happy and beautiful," said Reddick. "Each one of my clients is very special to me and I enjoy each one so much!"
