Here's a story just for the taco lover. Friday (10/4) is National Taco Day.

Let's answer some questions about tacos shall we? How long have they been around? Who invented them? What did tacos have in common with dynamite? How did they get to the U.S.?

Tacos are believed to have been born in the silver mines of Mexico a couple hundred years ago.

Mexican silver miners in the 18th century wrapped gunpowder in paper, which they would then push into the holes they carved in the rock face. They referred to these as tacos.

The miners later started calling their lunches tacos as well, since tortillas wrapped around potatoes or other simple stuffings with hot sauce resembled the little sticks of dynamite.

The taco came to the U.S. through migrants who traveled to the Los Angeles area in the early 1900s.
