For South Dakota Republicans, it was a night of historic proportions.

It was the first GOP sweep of all statewide offices in over 50 years.

It was the first time since 1963 that Republicans will control both South Dakota U.S. Senate seats and Congressional seat.

It was a comfortable victory by former S.D. Gov. Mike Rounds after a scare in September.

It was the same in the U.S. House and South Dakota governor’s races, with incumbents Kristi Noem and Dennis Daugaard dispatching their opponents in short order with even larger margins than Rounds.

For South Dakota Democrats, it was a night where their only victory was not for a state candidate but for the passage of an increase in the state minimum wage.

It was a Republican victory in every other statewide race, from AG to the PUC.
