Is It Littering to Throw Out Apple Core?

Mike, one of our regular callers, asked us this morning if we thought it was littering to throw an apple core out of your car. He got into an argument with a friend over this and wanted us to settle it. That only made it worse. I thought it was littering. Naturally, Mel disagreed.
