Craigslist is a great resource for meeting people and buying and selling almost anything. But when it comes to giving away children, there are probably better ways. That didn't stop a Texas woman from offering her three-year-old for adoption on the service, however.

Houston Police say that 29-year-old Stephanie Christine Redus posted an ad on Craigslist on May 1 explaining that she was a single mom who couldn't care for her son any longer.

Hi, I'm trying to adopt out my three year old son," read the post. "I'm not in a good place in my life and don't feel like I can care for him properly, but I don't know where to start. If you or [anyone you know] is interested in caring for him please let me know. I'm a single mom and can't do this. Thanks, Desperate."

As a result, police arrested Redus and charged her with a misdemeanor offense for illegally advertising her child for adoption placement. Her bail was set at $1,000.

During a recorded interview with police, Redus said she never intended to give up her child. Instead, she claimed to be off medication for anxiety and depression because she's pregnant with a second child. The ad, she said, was simply a way of dealing with her distress.

The three-year-old is currently in the care of his father, which we can probably all agree is a good thing. And while we're at it, here's hoping they restrict Redus' internet access once her second child is born.
