Just this morning a dear friend of ours told us his son had purchased a Golden Retriever puppy. Puppies are adorable. God makes them that way so that we still love them after they eat our favorite shoes and poop on the new carpet.

Which reminds me, this study I came across mentioned nothing about replacing things said puppy may destroy during their first two years of life!

In any case if you're thinking of adopting or purchasing a creature of the canine persuasion you may want to consider what that adorable ball of fur will cost you. Speaking from personal experience- -a lot!

Also keep in mind that many of these costs are approximate at best, or wildly low or high at worst.

1. A) Adopting – Up to $250
B) Buying from breeder - $500 to $2000
2. Micro-chipping - $45
3. Emergency procedures - $1000 to $5000 dollars
4. Pet camera – 60 to $380
5. Routine yearly exam - $45 to $200
6. Dog food - $45
7. Boarding of doggie sitters - $37
8. Clothing - ??
9. Fencing - $2500
10. Pet deposits - $500
11. Dog pampering – toenail clipping $10, bath $16, grooming $29 & up
12. Vaccinations - $100
13. Flea & tick medications - $200 to $500 per year
Heartworm medications- $5 to $15 per month
14. Dog walking services - $20 to $30 per 30 minute walk
15. Training - $448

What about food bowls, beds, a crate, toys, treats. . .

Rover.com says that right around $838 would be your starting expense (if you adopt) and $75 would be what you spend per month. I beg to differ, but maybe I'm doing something wrong!
