Back in the 50’s it wasn’t common for the father to be present for the birth of their child. Testimonies from the 1950s suggest many men thought it was not a man's place and surprisingly a lot of women didn't like the idea of their husbands seeing them in that way.

But it all changed in the 1970’s when men began to be by their wife’s side. Still only 14% of fathers today are still not able to attend the birth of their child. This interesting article talks about how it all changed and whether or not it might change back.
