Nick Thomas, the long time singer of the Sioux Falls band The Spill Canvas, has recorded his first solo album. But, unlike his major label releases of the past, this one was crowd funded.

"Shadowars" was written, recorded and produced with the help of "some of the Spill guys" a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of raising $15,000 to cover the cost of production. In just over two months a total of $32,218 was given by 684 people, crushing the original goal. Subsequently Thomas was named the #5 unsigned artist of 2013 by PureVolume.com.

The first single, "Circles and Lines," has a familiar feel. Spill-ish in it's sound, it has a more ragged pop-rock feel. While it doesn't punch you in the face as your new favorite song, the more times I listen to it the more I like having it stuck in my head.
