I've written before about how it's mostly safe for any baseball fan to be optimistic at this time of year.

I love Opening Day (I capitalize the words because it's a significant day that should be a holiday). Every team is starting fresh and they're all even in the standings.

I'm even going to go out on a limb and say that so far, I'm optimistic about my beloved Minnesota Twins, and I will be as long as it's humanly possible. Sure, I've heard and read all about how even if the lineup is solid if not spectacular, the pitching is suspect. Really suspect.

Vance Worley the Opening Day starter? He was 0-1 during Grapefruit League play, with an ERA of 5.75. We have a rotation consisting, in part, of reclamation projects, Twins fans.

But I'm still optimistic. And I'm going to be that way for quite some time, I hope.

Because we're getting started on a new baseball season, and when you get right to it, things don't get much better than that.

Play ball!
