I spent Christmas with my family in Pueblo,Colorado. You may have heard my rants about its shortcomings. I also wrote an article in which I mentioned that Pueblo likes to refer to itself as the "home of heroes", because it has a proliferation of veterans which reside there. Unfortunately many of those resident veterans are homeless.

There is a special kind of sadness about men and women who have served their country to keep our homes safe, ending up without a place of their own to call home.

With this in mind, I want to let you know about a Veteran's Homeless Relief Drive being held here in Sioux Falls. It is being sponsored by the Department of S.D. American Legion Auxiliary, the Sioux Falls American Legion Post No. 15 and Miss Siouxland, Autumn Simunek.

They are putting together "Buddy Baskets" which could be a laundry basket or a waste basket filled with everything from winter clothing items, (like coats, hats, gloves, long underwear, etc),  to personal hygiene items, (soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, toilet paper, etc), to dishes, towels, eating utensils and so much more. Shopping gift cards and monetary donations would also be greatly appreciated.

These items can be dropped off at the Berakhah House at 400 N. Western Avenue, through January 15th.

Our veterans deserve a better "homecoming". Please help, if you can.
