Around midnight, the Sioux Falls Police Department Officers were dispatched to Wal-Mart at 5521 E. Arrowhead Parkway for a strong armed robbery, assault and shoplifting.  Prior to the arrival of the officers, the suspects fled in a vehicle.

The vehicle was located and a traffic stop was attempted.  The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit was then started.  The pursuit eventually entered onto I-229 and then I-90.  The pursuit continued until exiting on Timberline Ave. and ultimately ending near Rice St. and Timberline Ave.

The driver was taken into custody without incident while the passenger was taken into custody after a brief struggle with the assistance of the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Department.

At the time of the pursuit there were minor children in the van and they were not injured.  A 58 year old back seat passenger received non life threatening injuries through the course of the incident.

The 3 children were taken into protective custody.

The driver was identified as 28 year old Joanne M. Swallow of Mitchell and she was lodged for Aggravated Eluding, 3 counts of Abuse and Cruelty to children, Shoplifting and Drive While Suspended.

The front seat passenger was identified as 34 year old Robert Salinas of Sioux Falls.  He was lodged for Aggravated Eluding, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, 3 counts of Abuse and Cruelty to Children, Robbery 2nd, Resisting Arrest and Fugitive from Justice.
