High School Football Player Dies After Being Hurt in Game on Friday Night

The high school football seasons across the country are in full swing and it's usually a part of the season that is filled with optimism and excitement.

This weekend however, it was met with sadness and tragedy as a high school football player died after sustaining a hit on Friday night.

Evan Murray, a three year starter at quarterback and three sport star for Warren Hills Regional High School in New Jersey was hit in a game on Friday and actually walked off the field before later collapsing.

According to the New York Daily News, Murray felt "woozy" after the hit but was reportedly reassuring his teammates he would be ok as he was lifted on a gurney and taken to a hospital.

The cause of death is yet to be determined, but the news has shook the community in and around the high school.

Many have taken to social media to offer their condolences including the New York Jets.

With growing concerns about concussions and the impact football and its collisions can have on youth, this is another prime example of how no matter the contact sport, that there are risks involved.

According to the Associated Press:

Summit schools Superintendent June Chang said he and other district officials met with the Summit football team on Saturday morning, so the coaches and players could speak about what happened. They also provided them with information on support services.
