A Sioux Falls man will remain in jail for stabbing another man in a motel parking lot after the South Dakota Supreme Court denied his appeal.

Vind Strozier, 57, was convicted of second-degree murder and assault in 2011 for stabbing 22-year-old Rodney Iron Hawk to death and wounding another man.

Strozier's lawyers argued that his statements to police should not have been used during the trial because he had not given up his right to remain silent. They also argued that Strozier acted in self-defense.

However, video provided by police of Strozier's interrogation shows that he voluntarily talked with officers.

The court also ruled that the jury in Strozier's original trial heard enough evidence to reject his claim of self-defense.
