If you thought Gilead was scary before, wait until you see it as a nuclear wasteland. Our first full trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 has arrived, along with an official April premiere date and a bonus appearance by Marisa Tomei.

After an early sneak peek in the form of last week’s photos, The Handmaid’s Tale now confirms that the first two Season 2 episodes will bow on Wednesday, April 25, followed by weekly installments. The new footage gives us a longer look at Gilead’s radioactive “Colonies,” along with Moira’s new life up north, Offred (June)’s imprisonment and a few more glimpses of the past.

The Handmaid’s Tale also held court at the Sunday TCA press tour, in which we learned that Marisa Tomei will take a guest role in the new season as a commander’s wife in the Colonies, beginning with the second episode. Elsewhere of Season 2, we know Alexis Bledel has been elevated to series regular in her role as “Ofglen” (Emily), while Clea DuVall will join the series as her wife, Sylvia. Here’s a synopsis for the return:

The 13-episode second season will be shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia. In Season Two, Offred and all characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.

April is a long time to wait, but we’ll likely have another trailer before long. Stay tuned for the latest on The Handmaid’s Tale Season 2 as we get closer to the April 25 premiere.
