It's the regular season game on the 2013 schedule for the Nebraska Cornhuskers Friday, as they host Iowa in the annual Heroes Game.

The Huskers are a win away from a nine-victory season, which would be their sixth straight year of winning at least that many under head coach Bo Pelini.

Victory #8 of the 2013 season came last Saturday in overtime at Penn State, in a game that saw a little bit of everything from turnovers to lead changes, to costly penalties and injuries, to late game heorics, as Nebraska's Pat Smith capped a 3-for-3 day with a 42-yard field goal to win the game.

The 'Voice of the Cornhuskers' Greg Sharpe told me in was a long day in State College:

Injury at the quarterback position continues to be a theme for the 2013 Huskers, as Tommy Armstrong left the Penn State game early with an ankle injury, giving way to Ron Kellogg.

It looks like it will be Kellogg behind center against the Hawkeyes Friday morning:

Like the Huskers, Iowa has won 3-of-4 including rallying from a 21-7 deficit against Michigan last Saturday to win 24-21, pushing their record to 7-4.

This season's Iowa team is a far cry from last season's four-win team:

One of the keys to Iowa's resurgence is the play of their defense, which is first in the Big Ten against the pass, third in total defense.  Senior leadership is paying off in Iowa City:

With a victory Friday, the already bowl eligible Huskers move to nine wins during the regular season.  If that happens, does that mean a better bowl game for Nebraska?

Win or lose Friday it is the final game at Memorial Stadium for the Class of 2013.  This group of seniors never won a conference championship, but have left behind a legacy in Lincoln:

Kickoff from Lincoln is Saturday at 11:00am.  You can listen to the game live on your home for Huskers football in the Sioux Empire, ESPN 99.1!
