PIERRE, S.D. - Governor Dennis Daugaard has issued an emergency declaration to provide state assistance with removal of tree debris in southeastern South Dakota following a major spring storm.

The emergency declaration will allow inmate crews from the Department of Corrections and personnel and equipment from the Department of Transportation to be used to help local emergency officials trying to clear trees and other debris from streets following the ice storm. The declaration covers Lincoln and Minnehaha counties.

Daugaard has also placed soldiers from the South Dakota National Guard on alert in case their help is needed with the clean-up effort.
