Those hardworking researchers at WalletHub are out with yet more good news for South Dakota and Sioux Falls in particular! That news is, that we are one of the best cities in the U.S for people with disabilities. They analyzed the most populated 150 cities in the country and compared them using 23 different measurements across three key dimensions.

Some of those categories are, adjusted cost of living, employment rate among people with disabilities, doctor visit costs, overall quality of health care, parking access, educational opportunities and more.

Overall, Sioux Falls comes in 15th in the country and in Health Care Accessibility and Quality our city received a number one rating. Sioux Falls got a third place rating for Employment Rate Among People with Disabilities and 14th in housing costs. But there is plenty of room for improvement in many other categories like; the percentage of disabled citizens living below the poverty line, the cost of in-home services and walkable park access, among others.

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month and it serves as a reminder that the unemployment rate for disabled citizens in our country is still almost double the rate for people without a disability.
