Who knew there was a National Jerky Day? Who knew that Thursday, June 12th was declared National Jerky Day in South Dakota by gubernatorial proclamation? Now I do and I thought i would share all the info I found! National Jerky Day was established by proclamation on June 12, 2013 and now is celebrated annually to commemorate Americans' love for snacking.

Jack Link's Beef Jerky has two facilities in Alpena, South Dakota. They employee over 900 people and are planning to expand. To celebrate Jack Link's beef jerky becoming the number one meat snack in the U.S. this year they have created a monumental "Meat Rushmore"!

Yup, a giant replica of Mount Rushmore is 13 feet tall, 17 feet wide, covered in 1600 pounds of beef, pork and turkey jerky. Unfortunately for us, here in the home of Mount Rushmore, the closest we can get to this epic sculpture is online. It will only be on display in New York City at Columbus Circle today. But you can check it out here.
