Sioux Falls City Council has approved the free youth ride program on the Sioux Area Metro for the summer of 2016.

The Dogs Days of Summer program was initially implemented last year in hopes of introducing youth to public transportation and create ridership over a lifetime.

Councilor Rick Kiley says its important ensure the riders actually make use of the free pass they receive, as many students got the pass, but ridership did not go up as much as expected.

Kermit Staggers was the lone vote against the free ride program on the SAM.
