The Nightmare on Elm Street movies really tried to plug into the youth culture with their movie soundtracks. The movie folk got rock bands and rappers to tell the tale of Freddy Kruger in song. Freddy even tried his hand at busting a move. So, I thought that Halloween would be a good time to check out some of these 'monster' hits (see what I did there? Get it? Monster hits, like a monster, like scary, Halloween? That's just clever right there).

The Fat Boys - Are You Ready For Freddy?

This song is from 1988's A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. This movie has long been considered one of the films in the Nightmare series. Freddy takes the mic and showes his skill in this song that played over the end credits. I remember putting my cassette recorder up to the TV to record the song when I rented the VHS (HUMBLE BRAG).

Dokken - Dream Warriors

From 1987's A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. In 87 we were in the thick of hair metal, so the movie producers hooked up with a pre-state fair Dokken. This video is a perfect example of the soundtrack video. There are movie scenes cut together with the band's performance. There is even a nice mash up of the movie and the video. Kristen Parker is making a Dokken collage to try to say awake, in the movie she is making Freddy's House out of Popsicle sticks Then at the end of the video she is saved by the rock! Oh, and don't forget the twist ending. This is my favorite Nightmare movie ...well, I don't know if it's my favorite or if I've just seen it the most. Plus, it's a pretty solid song.

Romeo's Daughter - Heaven in the Backseat

This song is from 89's A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, which I saw in the theater on opening night (HUMBLE BRAG #2). In this move Freddy does some stuff in some people's dreams or whatever and there is a child or something. The soundtrack featured the finest in Heavy Metal and Rap that, I'm guessing, could be rounded up over a long lunch on a Friday the day before the album was to come out. Oh and Samantha Fox. The single this time around was from Th UK's Romeo's Daughter. It's a pretty good song and the video is another movie and concert mash up. Hey, its Freddy on a skateboard!

Goo Goo Dolls - I'm Awake Now

Yes, that Goo Goo Dolls. This was 1991 and the band was just starting out and they had three songs on the soundtrack for Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, the fifth move in the series. This was the single. In the video the band falls asleep watching Freddy on TV then wakes up in a nightmare where they sing in a theater and watch the move. The song's a good Goo Goo Dolls song but the band looks weird in their 80's Rock costumes.
