Former Orange City Golfer, Michael Greller, on Pace to Earn $1 Million as Spieth’s Caddie
The British Open golf tournament started Thursday and the world's hottest golfer, Jordan Spieth, is going to do his best to win it – which would give him his third major championship of the year.
This guy, at age 21, could actually win a grand slam.
He’s got to be thrilled with this – and so is his caddy, Michael Greller, who has already earned more than $860,000 because of Jordan’s success.
The way things are going, the chances are very good that the caddie will become a millionaire before the year is over.
He has already made more than many actual golfers on the tour – and he hasn’t teed off even once.
Not a bad gig for Greller, especially considering he was working as a high school teacher just a few years ago.
Having moved from Michigan with his father in 1992, and still in high school, Michael challenged the head pro at Orange City's Landsmeer Golf Course to a friendly match – and beat him.
From there he went on to become a star player for Northwestern College. After college, Greller went on to teach golf, then got into sales, then taught a math class in Oregon before turning his attention back to golf – and the world of caddies.
The MOC-Floyd Valley High School and Northwestern College graduate is caddying for Spieth who will vie for a triple crown win at the British Open this weekend.
