When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in an open-air venue near Gräfenhainichen, sing Germany's most famous anti-war protest to a massive crowd.

Kylie Minogue, who may or may not have a brand new Christmas album in the works, stormed Germany as part of the country's annual electronic Melt! Festival last week. In a video published to the performer's YouTube page today (July 21), she honors Deutschland with a cover of Nena's classic 1983 tune "99 Red Balloons" (or, in German, "99 Luftballons").

"I have a red balloon, but can you imagine if I had 99?" Kylie asks the eager crowd in the clip above, which finds her dressed in a crimson mini dress to match. "I'm sorry I can't do this in German. You can sing in whichever language you like," she offers in a final disclaimer as the music gets going, and she prepares for the number. A bilingual singalong? WE'RE NOT WORTHY.

In front of a disco ball-decorated "KYLIE" installation and an illuminated set of giant lips, the Australian artist dives into the tune, which originally told the story of German military pilots mistaking 99 red balloons for unlicensed aircraft and shooting them down, leading to unprecedented warfare. Thankfully, Kylie's rendition—which features uplifting crowd interaction and bouncy dance moves—is a bit more hopeful.
