You have three marquee-busting actors with Oscar credibility in your cast. You have an Oscar-winning director coming off his massively successful Best Picture honoree. You have the power of Broadway behind you. And your debut poster is … the face of an orphan?

OK, OK so it kind of makes sense for ‘Les Miserables’ to advertise the young Cosette (Isabelle Allen) on the first poster, pasted on the movie’s official Facebook page. Despite the presence of Fantine (Anne Hathaway) and Valjean (Hugh Jackman), it’s Cosette’s journey we trace through the musical, which will be brought to the big screen in Tom Hooper (‘The King’s Speech’).

Universal knows its has a massive hit on its hands. The recent behind-the-scenes featurette posted online generated raves. The studio can afford to be coy about its marketing, rolling out Jackman, Hathaway and Russell Crowe clips as we get closer to the film’s Dec. 25 release date.

In the meantime, here’s the poster. What are your thoughts?
