A huge grass fire that broke out around 5:30 PM on Thursday, (November 16) in a field near Tea is finally out.

KDLT News is reporting that thanks to the efforts of the Tea, Sioux Falls, and Harrisburg Fire Departments the fire was finally contained around 10:00 PM on Thursday night.

According to the KDLT News report, nearly three dozen acres of a field near Tea was scorched as a result of the grass fire.

Fire officials believe the blaze resulted after a farmer in the area was burning some tree branches and debris in his pasture. It's likely that wind blew embers into tall grass nearby in a marshy area near 272nd Street and 470th Avenue just east of Tea. The dry conditions in the area, along with the wind helped fuel the flames and grow the fire.

Officials told KDLT News, a home nearby was threatened, but fortunately fire crews were able to extinguish that section of the blaze before any damage to the home could be done.

Fire crews reportedly left the scene of the blaze around 10:30 PM after double checking the field to make sure there were no longer any smoldering embers that could flare back up.
