Fire Damages Several Units at the Woodlake Apartments in Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS – Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire on the northeast corner of West 49th St. and South Louise Avenue shortly after 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Five units with 17 firefighters responded to Woodlake Apartments for the alarm. The first Fire Officer on scene reported smoke from a third floor balcony and requested that Metro Communications strike a second alarm due to life safety considerations.
A rapid fire attack allowed firefighters to extinguish the fire before it spread to the interior of the unsprinklered apartment. Other crews checked for extension to the apartment directly below the area of origin and searched for residents who had not evacuated the building.
Two residents who were hearing impaired had not realized that the fire alarm sounded and were escorted from the building by SFFR personnel.
The Red Cross responded to assist the two persons who were displaced by the fire.
