Twenty-seven years ago, a group of Sioux Falls band parents got together and decided it was about time the city of Sioux Falls hosted a marching band festival of its own.  Up until that time, marching bands in this area had to travel to other cities in order to compete.

Today, thanks to the help of hundreds of band parents from all three public high schools and O'Gorman High School, the 'Festival of Bands' has grown to become one of the largest marching band festivals in the upper Midwest, with as many as 10-thousand visitors expected.

This Saturday, the 27th Annual 'Festival of Bands' will take place in Sioux Falls, with a parade through downtown and field competition at Howard Wood Field.

Brad Bartz is chairman of this year's event.
