Karen Krietlow's brother in law, Jimmy, took his own life at the age of 25!

"There's a lot of disbelief and just trying to figure out if there was something else that happened....maybe it was an accident.  But it was very obvious that wasn't the case."

Susan Kroger of the Helpline Center in Sioux Falls says suicide touches many people.

"When you hear a story like Karen's---it really makes you take a step back and look at your own life.  I think people who have had a similar loss due to suicide know it's important to reach out for help."

Karen and her husband will walk in honor of Jimmy at this year's third annual Step Forward to Prevent Suicide walk on June 21st at Falls Park in Sioux Falls.

The event raises awareness about suicide, remembers those lost to suicide and supports the Helpline Center's suicide prevention and crisis support programs.
